Pigmented or coated leather
Production
For these leathers the hides with the most natural features are used. A colour layer is applied to receive a pleasant levelling of the surface. The natural features are nearly no longer visible, they are coated, therefore the term “coated leathers“. Consequently, of course, also the pores are nearly no longer visible. Some kinds of leathers are additionally embossed or pressed to give them a natural and live appearance. After dyeing, this leather receives also a protective layer to reject dirt.
Properties
| According to the largely sealed pores, of course, also the respiratory activity and the possibility for a temperature balance are reduced. On the other side, the leather receives enormous long wearing properties because of this colour coat: Liquids remain mostly very long on the surface of the leather, therefore, nearly no stains can emerge. |

Treatment
Pigmented or coated leathers are carefree leathers, liquids are - as mentioned above - generally rejected and can be easily wiped up with a cloth. The not immediately visible body and hair fats affect also this kind of leather badly. If you do not remove them regularly, they attack the protective coat consisting of impregnation and colour, it breaks up and becomes cracked. The damaging influence of dry air can also cause this breaking-up of the protective coat, ugly chaps are the consequence (see photo, last page).
Therefore, also for this kind of leather regular treatment is necessary: Clean your leather regularly with a damp cloth (not wet). Purify the complete upholstered furniture at least two times a year with the KERASOFT Soft Cleaner of LCK GmbH. Then treat the leather with the KERASOFT Protection Cream, so the leather will be re-impregnated and re-fatted, i.e. it is again protected against dirt such as body and hair fat.
